JKCWU demands rehabilitation of stone quarry workers | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, May 25: Jammu and Kashmir Constructional Workers Union held a protest demonstration today at Press Enclave Srinagar demanding revocation of SRO 105 and rehabilitation of stone quarry workers of Safapora Ganderbal. In a statement issued today, the Union said that the labour laws across the state are being flouted and labourers associated with quarrying and construction business are deprived of their livelihood. Demanding revocation of SRO 105 the union stated that the said SRO is a blatant attack on the special status of the J&K as non- state subjects would be allowed to participate in the bidding process for construction and extraction. The move could escalate the rates of construction material having cascading effects, it remarked. President KCWU unit Safapora demanded shifting of proposed land for establishment of Engineering College from Gratbal stone quarry site to the adjacent available state land, this he said would save the livelihood of hundreds of stone quarry workers of the area. |
