Pahalgam hotels hiring non-professionals, tourists suffer | | | Early Times Report
Pahalgam, May 25: As the tourist rush increases at famous tourist resort of Pahalgam , most of the hotels have hired unprofessional individuals who hardly have any knowledge of hospitality sector. The authorities on the other hand seem to be least bothered to check this menace and the ultimate sufferers are the tourists who in-spite of paying a good amount to hotel owners, do not get the expected service. Most of the hotels especially those located around "Rafting Point" have hired people who hardly have any experience in tourism sector especially in hospitality , front office and house keeping. People who until few days back were working as salesmen in grocery shops or were employed at petrol pumps are working as waiters, bell boys, assistants to cooks in hotels around Pahalgam these days. Due to this un-professionalism the ultimate sufferers are the tourists who do not get better service. In a guest house near Rafting Point Pahalgam the tourists were served dinner only at 11pm on Wednesday evening as the unprofessional cook employed by hotel owner was not able to prepare the dinner for 20 guests staying at the hotel. "The hotel owner brought the food from another hotel and it was served only at 11pm, and until then we along with small children were kept hungry" said Mohamad Asim a tourist from Ahmedabad while talking to Early Times. The reports say that most of the people working in guest houses and hotels wear shabby and unclean dresses. The cook works as sweeper also and vice versa . In a 20 room hotel only 5 to 7 people have been employed and the tourists have to suffer for basic services. "I was not putting up in a budget hotel , but paid Rs 2800 per day. The officials of Tourism department hardly take note of these issues" said Mohamad Haneef a tourist hailing from Baramulla. People allege that all the garbage is thrown in and around Pahalgam by most hotel owners. Large quantity of solid waste is collected on daily basis from the hotels but there is no facility available for its scientific management around Pahalgam. Most of this solid waste is thrown into the Lidder river. |
