Don't be afraid of separatists, go ahead: MHA to JK Govt | Sainik, KP colonies in Kashmir | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 25: As the separatists have announced to launch an agitation to oppose the Sainik and Pandit colonies in Kashmir, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has stepped in to ensure that state government doesn't succumb under pressure and goes ahead with the proposed plan to set up these townships, sources told Early Times on Wednesday. They said, MHA has taken a serious note about the Jammu and Kashmir government softening its stand over the issue and has got it conveyed to the state that it should not pay any heed towards the hue and cry raised by the separatists and pave the way for ensuring that land for these colonies is identified and construction work is undertaken without wasting any more time. Sources said that MHA has taken a strong note about the JK government spokesman ruling out exclusive colonies for Kashmiri Pandits and "toeing the line of the separatists." MHA, according to the sources, has asked the JK government to identify the land first. "Modalities can be decided later. The first step is to identify the land. Then discussion can be held on whether the colonies would be exclusive or anyone can come and stay there," the MHA is understood to have conveyed it to the JK government. It's in place to mention here that separatists have joined hands to oppose these colonies and have called for a Valley-wide shutdown on Thursday against the setting up of proposed colonies. Sources said that MHA taking a tough stand has forced the PDP led government to act against the separatists. "To begin with the so-called JKLF Chief Yasin Malik, spearheading the campaign to oppose these colonies, was arrested on Wednesday evening, while a few leaders of Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, were also taken into custody. "The MHA in clear terms has asked the state government to ensure that separatists are reigned in and it should ask its ministers to stop appeasing separatists," sources added. They said, the MHA has sought the details of the land identified by the state for the proposed colonies. "The MHA wants the state government to identify the plot numbers with the specific location and current status of the land." Sources said that state government has informed the MHA that it has identified a piece of land in north Kashmir's Baramulla district. |
