Mob ransacks Drabshala BDO’s office over delay in solar lights' distribution 5/26/2016 12:09:34 AM Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report KISHTWAR, May 25: The BDO office at Drabshala here was today ransacked by locals over the alleged delay in the distribution of solar lights. As per details available with Early Times, a large number of people of Bunjwah block of the district assembled at BDO office, Drabshala, for collection of solar lights from the concerned JKEDA department, the nodal agency for distribution of these lights. These people had visited the Drabshala BDO office several times in the past also, but were returned homes empty handed. Today also, when they came to know that the officials concerned were in no mood to give them solar lights, they turned violent and ransacked the BDO office and also pelted stones on it for nearly one hour. Officials of the BDO office later intervened and pacified the angry mob. After public outburst, JKEDA officials along with revenue officials distributed solar lights among the identified beneficiaries. When contacted, MLA Ghulam Mohammad Saroori slammed the district administration and officials of JKEDA and said the attack on BDO office was due to the wrong policies of government officials. He said despite court directions, the district administration and JKEDA had failed to distribute solar lights. There were several areas in his constituency where administration had failed to distribute solar lights for the last two years as a result of which the batteries of these lights were becoming defunct and added that concerned administration and the department should be held responsible for damages. He, however, condemned the violent act of the people and asked the concern administration to distribute all the pending solar lights in shortest possible time.
