Yaseen Malik shifted to Central Jail, Srinagar | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, May 29: A day after Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti announced that separatists will be provided political space once the tourist season is over Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Mohammad Yaseen Malik was today shifted to Central Jail, Srinagar. A spokesman of the front said that Malik, who was arrested and detained in police station Kothibagh for the past four days, was shifted to central jail. However, he alleged that Malik was not produced before any magistrate before he was shifted to jail. He said other front leaders and activists, who were arrested during demonstration at Maisuma after Friday prayers, have been released yesterday. Malik held a series of meetings with other separatist leaders, traders, civil society and several other organizations to form a joint strategy against alleged conspiracy to change the muslim character of the state, construction of colonies for sainiks and pundits besides allot land to non-state-subjects under new industrial policy. The separatist organizations later issued a joint strike call on Thursday and asked people to hold protest rallies after Friday prayers in their respective areas. However, Malik was arrested while others were put under house arrest to foil the rallies. Mehbooba had yesterday said restrictions would be imposed on separatists in the interest of the state as tourist season was at its peak. She said once the tourist season is over separatists would be provided political space. |
