Early Times Report
Kathua, May 31:- J&K Education Minister Naeem Akhtar claims of renaissance in School education, but pupils in government schools are deprived off basic amenities. Government Primary schools in entire state are live examples of indifference, apathy and policy paralysis.
Government Primary School Plot in Marheen Zone deflates all claims of the government as dozens of students are studying in sub-standard infrastructure and poor facilities with a single woman teacher managing to run the school. Locals of village Plot raised the issue and demanded apposite facilities. Nitin Kumar, Siya Devi and other students raised pitch for uniforms, Mid Day meal, desks, sanitary system etc in the school.
When contacted, teacher Kulwinder Kour accepted the deficiency in infrastructure but informed that ZEO Marheen has allocated funds for the improvement/ maintenance, TLM, mid day meal etc for the school. She informed that another teacher who was incharge of the school has been on education leave for a year and she can't withdraw funds from bank resulting in lack of facilities in the school. She said the I/C teacher must have handed over the records to sub-ordinate but he refused to do so.
It is relevant to mention here that there are number of Primary schools in Zone Marheen wherein Incharge teachers misappropriate the funds and maintain fictitious record to eye wash the high officers/ zone incharge. It is also highlighted that few primary schools in district Kathua are without students or less in number than in class rooms but duly enrolled in registers. Incharge of the schools withdraw funds and maintains fictitious records as there is no proper check on Primary schools.
ZEO Marheen Balbir Singh, accepted the worse condition of other primary schools too and informed that the matter has been already discussed with higher authorities. He said funds have been allocated to each primary school in the zone however Mid day meal can't be restored due to unavailability of Rice in depots.
