Early Times Report Jammu, June 30: It may be sound bizarre but true around 835 Government Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools of Jammu and Kashmir without electricity, has exposed all claims made by state government about to strengthen the school infrastructure across the state. Moreover, state government has proposed to install Biometric Attendance System (BAS) in all government schools to ensure punctuality of teachers in their daily functioning but interesting same has failed to provide electricity facilities to these schools. Sources in School education department informed Early Times that state has a total of 4198 Government and Higher Secondary Schools but 835 schools in the state lacks electricity connections, which means, the students community in these schools are still deprived of computer education. Around 400 schools falls in nine district of Jammu division having without electricity including district Doda has 73 schools, followed by Poonch- 69 schools, Reasi- 54 schools, Kishtwar- 47 schools, Jammu-36, Udhampur -35, Ramban - 34 schools, 26 schools at each Kathua and Rajouri district. Similarly, 435 schools falls in Kashmir division, 70 schools at each in Budgam and Kupwara district, followed by 67 schools in Barmulla district, 48 schools in Anantang district, 49 in Kargil, 32 in Pulwama, 18 schools in Shopian district, 29 schools in Kulgam, 11 in Leh and 3 schools in Srinagar district. Sources further said that importance of electricity in schools in laboratories, especially computer laboratory, enables the students not only to do their practical lessons but also to have access to the internet, which help to wipe off ignorance and expose the students to the wider world. "Continuous power supply is also needed in the other laboratories as most of the apparatus needed for the practical lessons there need electricity to function", sources added.
