| LMD realises fine of Rs 35,400 | | | JAMMU, June 30: The legal metrology department (LMD) today inspected various commercial establishments in Ramban district of Jammu region and realised a fine of Rs 35,400 from the violators. The surprise checking was conducted on the basis of complaints of people, particularly from rural areas, that some shopkeepers were overcharging during the month of Ramdan, official sources said. The checking was carried out under the supervision of Assistant Controller Kapil Jamwal. The team inspected various commercial establishments like fruit, vegetables, karyanas, bakery, hardware shops, petrol pump and gas agencies, the sources added.
The team booked 53 violators and all cases were compounded on spot and a fine of Rs 35400 was realised.
The department has appealed to the consumers to be alert during the festival season and do not get carried away with lucrative offers. |
