Not meeting Rajnath badly exposes political opportunism of NC, Cong | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 23: Congress by deciding not to meet the union home minister Rajnath Singh on his visit to the valley has exposed its double-standards. State unit of the party had only two-day back held meeting with the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti called by her to diffuse the situation the tension and unrest in the valley. The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president GA Mir said even after two-day nothing tangible has moved on the ground after the meeting with the CM. He had also said that neither the Prime Minister nor the Home Minister had condemned the 'brutal' use of the force. PCC Chief, who though is well grounded, seems to taking dictation from the higher command of the party, and is for this reason is off the mark. The PM held the meeting to discuss the Kashmir situation just after his arrival from the South Africa and directed the forces to exercise maximum restrain. The Home Minister also expressed condolences over the death of the civilians and even announced the formation of the committee on the usage of the pellet gun. "The PM directing the forces to exercise restrain speaks about the concern of the PM towards the situation. More so, the statement comes from the Modi who incidentally had made his image of macho-nationalist. It shows how much he has changed especially with regard to Kashmir and this is something which the Congress high command doesn't want the people to understand and build up this narrative. It's for this reason, state unit has been directed to boycott the meeting," said a senior official. The NC on the other hand has decided to meet the home minister. The delegation of the NC will be led by Omar Abdullah with whom Rajnath Singh had spoken telephonically. It's the same Omar Abdullah who had boycotted the meeting convened by the Mehbooba Mufti. "It seems both major political parties are only addressing their political constituencies and try to settle political score rather than helping in diffusing the situation and it's how they stand exposed," said a senior PDP minister. |
