rajouri, July 23: While the power eludes the state of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly the Jammu region, the mocking surprise that comes on its pilferage is from Tehsil Sunderbani, district Rajouri where the influential in connivance are using the power illegally and to their best means.
According to sources, some of the influential people having close liaison with the BJP leaders, MLAs, MLCs and ministers in the government are using the power illicitly while the other people are reeling under great power shortage despite giving the actual dues.
Reported case is of the leaders of the BJP party itself where some people have constructed house and palatial bungalows, but have taken a single electricity connection which the four to five families are using.
It is alleged that meter reading of such connections too is tampered to great extent where the billing is reduced to mere peanuts while all the families are using heavy electrical gadgets that include number of air conditioners used in a one house itself. While the concerned junior engineer, executive engineer as well as other officials in the PDD Rajouri remained tight lipped over the issue, the beans were spilled by the sources inside the department which disclosed as to how these officers are left helpless and not to conduct any action against the defaulters.
"While the defaulters are either the relatives or kin of the BJP leaders in the state and the Power Development Department itself is handled by a senior BJP leader, none of the official can dare to stir the hornet's nest," said the source.
He said that the junior engineers and executive engineers are helpless in this case and if they initiate any action against these relatives and kiths of the BJP leaders, they are either bound to lose their jobs or will get transferred to far off places.
Another senior official in the PDD Rajouri said that since these families have made clusters in the area and are using the single heavy connection as the feeder to all the houses in the cluster, they have installed a single meter to pay off the bill, which too comes as negligible. Given this condition of open and brazen theft of the power by the government itself has created a great resentment amongst the people of Tehsil Sunderbani.
They have appealed to the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to herself conduct the investigation in the issue and rectify the damage being caused by the BJP. |
