None prescribes salt in J&K hospitals, brand names still priority | | | G.S.Asgotra Early Times Report Rajouri, July 23: Showing thumb to government order passed in years 2014, the unholy nexus of medical practitioners and corporate has led to prescription brand names rather than salt asked by government, that too in illegible manner to patients. Though, the Medical Council of India (MCI) in previous year had clearly mentioned in its guidelines which got approval from the Union Health Ministry that the prescription of medicine salt should be written in legible manner and capital letters. "But unfortunately most of the doctors (practitioners) working in public establishments (GMC&H, Distirict and Sub-district hospital) or in private clinics in Jammu districts are still blatantly prescribing the brand's names and the department concerned seems least bothered about it", said a practitioner not to be mentioned. However, under same policy, it is mandatory for every doctor to prescribe salts of instead of the brands' name. But the neither the state government nor its health department is succeeding to implement the policy in government health institutions. A retired doctor, Romesh Chander informed that the drug mafia and corporate lobby, creating obstacles to implement the policy in proper manner since long time. "If, once the policy is implemented in the states, it is respite for a common man and prove as to be a victory over an unholy nexus of practitioners and corporate that live as a parasite on the back of common man since long times", he added. At a time when government patting its back by getting J&K number one position in health services, the practitioners leaving no stone unturned to defame the government by blatantly prescribing branded medicines to the patients, said a doctor. "Owing to not prescription by medical practitioners in legible and capital letters, creating problems for the patients, resulting the pharmaceutical companies and chemist shops owners get huge profit", he added. Though the patients especially form remotest areas are unable to read what is being prescribed by the doctors, even, sometimes educated seems helpless what the doctor had wrote. "There is a huge difference between cost of generic and standard drugs and the chemist shop owners rather than give generic medicine, prefer to give profitable medicine to the patients which in turn is creating difficulties for patients", another doctor said. |
