SC stays contempt proceedings against IG, SSP | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 9: A Supreme Court division bench of Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose and Justice Amitava Roy today stayed contempt proceedings initiated against IGP, Kashmir, and SSP, Srinagar. After hearing the attroney general, the bench stayed the contempt proceedings initiated against the two police officers and directed the state authorities to complete the investigation with regard to the complaint filed by the father of the deceased on the basis of FIR which was lodged on July 10, 2016. The bench also directed the state to submit a report in a sealed cover on or before August 12 next. The SC had yesterday directed listing of the special leave petition filed by the state government against the high court directions, upholding the order of CJM, Srinagar, regarding filing of an FIR against a DSP in connection with the killing of a 26-year-old youth at Tengpora in Kashmir last month. On August 4, the single bench of Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir had dismissed the government's petition filed under section 561A of CrPC with a direction to the CJM to proceed under law. The CJM had on July 18 and July 29 directed the Srinagar SSP to file an FIR against the DSP and other police personnel for the alleged killing of Shabir Ahmad Mir at his residence on July 10. |
