Coordination within party leaders eludes, CM handling things all by herself | PDP MPs continue to remain reticent over Kashmir unrest | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 9: As PDP MLA from Tral Mushtaq Shah's statement on Burwani Wani registered some response for the first time at the level of legislators over Kashmir unrest, the silence from other quarters including those from the two seasoned MPs has become conspicuous in the political scenario of the state. The leaders of the ruling party are still sitting apart in their cocoons in the same way the stalwart MPs have chosen reticence, giving an indication yet again all is not well within the party. Sources said while the Chief Minister Mehbooba is making all out efforts to douse the flames of unrest at her own level, coordination and cooperation from her party colleagues is missing. Her party MPs have not come forth to discuss as to how the current unrest could be pacified or other measures the party could take, it being in steering seat of governance, sources said. Even the senior ministers of the party except a couple of them, have maintained distance and for over two weeks continued to remain in hibernation, sources said adding that this has forced the Chief Minister to 'handle' things all by herself. The two party MPs Muzaffar Hussain Baig and Tariq Hamid Qarra have seldom tried to be by her side as a supportive voices but in the present imbroglio the duo have stayed too far from everything, sources said. Though Tariq Qarra has given a statement, it was filled with critical remarks against the government of which his party is in leading role. The MPs' studied silence is being seen as deliberate reticence more for the fact that they have not uttered a word in the Parliament despite session being on. While it has been registered by the PDP that during the last two sessions of Parliament - both during the Monsoon and Budget sessions- PDP MPs didn't raise even a single question pertaining to Kashmir, what is becoming noticeable, rather obvious is that in the current session too they have yet to utter any word. This became conspicuous when opposition leaders in Rajya Sabha on Monday debate spoke in length over Kashmir unrest, suggested certain measures to pacify the crisis, contrary to PDP members in silent mode. On the other hand, coordination within the ministers and any rapport with their leader at this critical juncture has remained missing all these days, even as Chief Minister made a loud call last month to her MLAs to come out of their homes and reach to angry masses, sources said. Most of the MLAs and even ministers too are facing a backlash and anger of the protestors which is why they are not ready to face the public, said the sources. However, coordination and consultation within the party, between the senior leaders is all elusive, making it explicit all is not well within the ruling party, sources further said. |
