Separatists backed trade body adds fuel to fire | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 9: As the Kashmir unrest entered into its 32nd day on Tuesday, a few members of the business fraternity, who claim to be the so called representatives of the traders in Kashmir, announced full support to the strike calendar issued by the separatists. Their decision to offer unconditional support to the ongoing unrest in Kashmir has irked the traders and shopkeepers, who are not a part of their association, neither do they recognize the so-called Kashmir Inc. Sources told Early Times that a few people have hijacked this trade body in Kashmir and are trying to establish the writ of the separatists among the business community, which has suffered losses worth crores during the past one month. "The people who head these traders bodies are agents of separatists. Before unrest started in Kashmir these agents held many meetings with the separatists," said a source. He said, "Speculations are rife that Pakistan had pumped Rs 60 Crore into Kashmir before the unrest started. It seems these people have got their share from the money which Pakistan had pumped into Kashmir to trigger unrest." A businessman, who wished not to be named, said, "We had purchased goods worth crores and we owe lot of money to our suppliers based outside Kashmir. We cannot afford to keep our business units closed as it's we have suffered losses and have not paid our suppliers. Even when militancy was at its peak in Kashmir we never used to witness such a situation." A source said, "Police and investigating agencies are ascertaining the role of a few businessmen in the present unrest and are working on the links they have established with separatists. Their accounts are being screened and its being verified whether they are involved in money laundering and Hawala business." He said, "The so-called leaders of the business fraternity who are supporting the Pak sponsored elements are under scanner would be exposed and all their transactions would be made public." |
