GoI to clip wings of separatists | No talks, stern measures on cards; Mainstream politicians to be taken on board | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 9: The separatist leaders in Kashmir who were waiting in wings to get an invite for the talks over Kashmir have been left dumbfounded instead security grid has been asked to act tough against them. The separatists who have been continuously fuelling the present unrest in Kashmir were expecting an invitation of talks from the government of India over ending the present crisis. However, the stern posture being exhibited against them by the union home ministry has left them cornered from all sides. The union government, according to sources, has decided to bring the elected legislators on board to discuss the present situation in Kashmir and measures to bring back the normalcy in the region that has been reeling under the continuous curfews imposed after the strike calendars are issued by the separatists every week after since July 8. Reports informed that though the separatist leaders were tight lipped over any offer of dialogue coming from the centre to them and were readying themselves to react in accordance with the situation. However, what has arrived as a big blow to them is the union government's firm stand and equanimity to understand the situation and taking of the remedial measures. Isolating them further, there hasn't been any call for a dialogue process with the separatists over the ongoing unrest, rather the union government has hinted at initiating the dialogue with the state legislators and the mainstream parties. It has also hinted at entering into talks with the social service groups and human rights activists. Reports inform that the noose around the separatist leaders would be tightened further during the coming days for instigating people for violence and provoking them to take law into their own hands. On the other hand what could prove worrisome for the separatist leaders is the fizzling out of the present unrest in Kashmir. There are high chances of the present situation becoming better after August 15."There are apprehensions that the protest calendars wouldn't have any takers for long. There have been strike calls given since past 32 days. It is nothing but natural that such a calendar wouldn't have much takers in the coming time," said one of the separatist leaders, adding that what is more important is that end such a situation with a meaningful conclusion. Meanwhile, the government here has resolved that it would continue to focus on people's issues and would strive to make more effective governance on ground possible. Sources said that the government has issued directions to its machinery that more and more pro-people measures must be taken in a bid to pacify the present anger and show people a way out. "We will continue to work on the governance front. I believe this is what the people of the state have been yearning for since decades. If you offer good governance to the state, it will reciprocate in a more positive manner and things would turn favourable for the resumption of peace times," said a legislator and a senior political leader of the present regime.
