IIIM-Jammu, CIMAP-Lucknow team visited at KVK, Reasi | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 9: A team of scientists from the Indian Institute of Integrative Medicines (IIIM)-Jammu and Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP)-Lucknow (UP) visited at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J). According to official spokesperson, Dr Banarsi Lal, Incharge(Head) of KVK, Reasi gave an overview of the district to the scientists and elaborated on the scope of medicinal and aromatic plants in the district Reasi. He spoke about the monkey menace and other wild animals causing damage to the crops like maize, vegetables, fruits, pulses etc. which takes toll of the agricultural yields. He told if aromatic and medicinal plants cultivation is introduced in the district then the farmers' prosperity can be gained. He explained that farmers of the district want to generate the extra income from their farms by the modern cropping system. Dr Irshad from CIMAP informed that the medicinal plants like lemongrass, vetiver, palmarosa, phalsa etc are not eaten by the monkeys and farmers can generate extra income by growing these aromatic plants with less effort. Later a list of beneficiaries from Reasi district was provided to the team for the aromatic and medicinal plants cultivation. Among experts who also spoke on this occasion were Dr Safaziv, Dr Sanjay Kaushal, Dr Suja Nabi Qureshi and others. |
