Dumping garbage into nullah inviting fatal risks | | | M S Nazki Early Times Report
Poonch, Aug 21: Instead of disposing of garbage and other waste material at a dumping ground, the RDD authorities are directly throwing garbage into a nullah (stream) in Mendhar. Residents of the areas complained that by doing so they are not only polluting the Mendhar stream which ultimately will lead to the death of aquatic animals but are also causing great pain to the people who pass through the area as foul smell emanates from the stream. The RDD authorities after collecting garbage from various parts of the town directly throw it into the nullah from bridge near bus stand . We have complained to the authorities many times, but to no avail. Now we have given up complaining," general secretary Press Council of Mendhar, Poonch Tariq Khan said. These open landfill sites produce toxic chemicals. A local said: "They are polluting the Mendhar stream, which will ultimately lead to loss of aquatic life in it. It is also causing problems to people who pass through the area, as foul smell emanates from the stream." Due to the negligence of the RDD authorities, the flora and fauna in the stream had been badly affected, he added. People of the state should struggle for getting freedom from corrupt & religion base political system for ever to save our coming generation & beware of the corrupt politicians responsible for this unrest in Kashmir. |
