Forest Deptt sleuths foil Deodar smuggling bid by 'HP timber' mafia | | | Early Times Report
bhaderwah, Aug 29 : The sleuths from Forest Department today foiled the bid of the smuggling green Deodar trees cut down in Padri of Forest of Bhaderwah falling on border of Jammu and Kashmir and Himichal Pradesh allegedly by Himachal Timber mafia here during wee hours of today morning. According to Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Bhaderwah T B Singh, the timber smugglers entered the Bhaderwah forest area from HP side and want to cut a Deodar trees with power chain saw machine. "But alert guards informed the Control Room Forest Division Bhaderwah, Singh said. DFO Bhaderwah said this is the first attempt on Bhaderwah Himichal Pradesh border by smugglers of Deodar smuggling bid foiled. "Immediately a team was constituted and was rushed to the spot, Singh said, adding, "prompt action from forest department sleuths didn't give enough time to smugglers allegedly from Himachal to ferry the green Deodar tree as they were forced to abandon the one freshly cut Deodar tree." DFO Bhaderwah also informed that the timber smugglers escaped by taking the advantage of darkness in the area and reentered in HP area due to wee hours of morning. "During this operation special squad seized a Power Chain Saw Machine worth thousands which was abandoned by timber mafia, he added. He also informed that a case stands registered in this connection while man hunt has been launched to nab the absconding accused and more forest guards are sent to Padri area near Himichal Pradesh. He said that timber mafia from HP is reportedly trying to smuggle forest wealth of Jammu and Kashmir following strict forest laws in HP.
