Separatists under NIA scanner for receiving funds to 'foment' trouble in Kashmir | Issues notice to eldest son of Syed Ali Geelani | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Aug 29: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has started the process of summoning the separatist leaders and their sympathizers for their alleged role in receiving funds to foment trouble in the Kashmir valley. Sources told Early Times that the NIA is also keeping a close watch on the bank accounts of the people who are either separatist leaders or are sympathizers of the separatists. A close vigil is being kept on the banks where the separatist leaders or their sympathizers are operating their accounts. "Relatives and close aides of separatist leaders like Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Mohammad Yasin Malik, Syeda Asiya Andrabi and Shabir Ahmad Shah are under scanner these days. The NIA is keeping a close watch on the acquaintances of these separatist leaders so that they don't miss any opportunity to nail any of them more so at a time when Kashmir is facing severe crisis," said sources. Sources said the NIA has issued a notice to Dr. Naeem Geelani, eldest son of Syed Ali Geelani in a case of alleged receipt of funds from outside the country. Dr. Naeem has been asked to make himself present at the NIA office at Sonwar here so as to make his position clear in the case. He is likely to be quizzed and questioned by the NIA people so that the facts come out and the picture is crystal clear. "Preliminary investigations have revealed that funds amounting to around Rs 30 crores have been received by separatist leaders to foment trouble in Kashmir valley. The separatist leaders are not receiving the amount of their own and they are receiving the same through conduits. The whole issue is being looked into and many skeletons are likely to come out of the cupboard in the near future," said sources. Sources said that the NIA is also keeping a close watch on the bank accounts of the relatives of the separatists and any suspicious activity on this front is being closely monitored by the investigating agency. There are chances that some of the separatists and their sympathizers may be arrested soon so that the truth comes out. Meanwhile, while reacting to the notice issued to Dr. Naeem, the Hurriyat Conference headed by Syed Ali Geelani said that Geelani's family is being 'terrified' and 'maligned' in a well net 'conspiracy'. The conglomerate said that the Government of India would not be able to dent the 'commitment' and 'will' of Geelani. It would be in place to mention here that Kashmir is on boil since the evening of July 8 after Hizbul Mujahideen Commander; Burhan Muzaffar Wani was killed in an encounter along with his associates at Bemdoora-Kokernag in South Kashmir's Anantnag district. More than 70 persons including three policemen have been killed in the street protests that broke out after Burhan's killing. |
