Land mafia encroaches state land in Udhampur

Early Times Report

Udhampur, Aug 29: Belying tall claims of the State Government that grazing land has been freed from the encroachments, hundreds of kanals of grazing land (Kahcharai) has been occupied by influential people just few kilometers from the district headquarters.
Sources told Early Times that a group of people enjoying close rapport with the politically affluent has encroached upon hundreds of kanals of grazing land (Kahchara in Khasra no 485/164 close to Udhampur town.
Over the past few months, these people have taken control of this land in the Bharat nagar and Subhash Nagar areas of Udhampur and have started illegal construction at the said piece of land.
"While some of the houses have already been constructed some others are under construction and no one from the district administration has turned up to stop the illegal construction," said sources.
Sources alleged that district administration is hand in glove with the encroachers. They said that it is due to this reason that no action whatsoever has been taken against the encroachers and they continue to make merry over the encroached land.
"It is not possible that the district administration does not know that houses have come up on grazing land in the heart of city when a commoner is aware about this development. The district administration is sleeping over the matter so as to provide cover to the encroachers and facilitate the construction on the grazing land," said the sources adding that people have also encroached upon the state land in many areas of the city falling in the outskirts.
"The district administration is making tall claims, but when it comes to freeing the land from encroachers, no substantial action has been taken against the land encroachers and they continue to encroach upon the state land or grazing land in different parts of the district," said the sources.
While contacted, ACR Udhampur Subhash Dogra said, " I will look into the matter as you have brought the matter into my notice and the strict action will be taken against the encroachers".
