Mob sets rest house, school building on fire Kulgam man dies of cardiac arrest amid clashes 9/7/2016 10:43:39 PM Saahil Suhail Early Times Report Kulgam, Sept 7: A 70-year-old man died of cardiac arrest on Wednesday during clashes between protesters and security forces in Kulgam district of south Kashmir.As per the locals, Abdul Gani Wani, of Chawalgam died of cardiac arrest after forces fired shells at the protesters. With his death the number of civilian deaths during the ongoing agitation has gone to 77. "A rally was scheduled to be held in nearby Mirhama village which forces apparently wanted to foil. They fired tear smoke shells in the village as well to disperse the people assembled in the village," sources said. They said that action of forces against people in the village ensued clashes between youth and police that spread up to Chawalgam. "Abdul Gani Wani suffered heart attack due to sudden shell explosion in the area," a local resident told Early Times. He said that forces were using tear smoke shells to disperse the mob.Soon after the death of Wani, thousands of people came out on Kulgam-Aharbal road and stormed into a government rest house. According to sources, the mob put the building on fire; however due to timely arrival of fire tenders the building was gutted partially.Earlier, according to villagers, a run school building was gutted due to a tear smoke shell which forces fired to foil the rally in Mirhama. "When forces lobbed tear smoke canisters inside the premises of the school it caught fire and few rooms of the school building gutted," they said. Meanwhile, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, senior CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam has expressed grief and shock over the death of Wani. "The sad situation prevailing in the Valley has taken away many precious lives.
