Doctors refrain from newly constructed building of IGGDC | Seek modifications for better professional maneuverability | | Nitesh Sangral
Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 7: Despite its formal inauguration by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti with great fanfare on Aug 30, the multi crore newly constructed building of Indira Gandhi Government Dental College (IGGDC) Jammu continues to be disowned and disclaimed. According to some sources within IGGDC administration, the senior faculty members have not shifted to the new block as they alleged that the newly constructed block is highly congested and there is little space to maneuver. Pertinently, the new block of the Indira Gandhi Dental College Hospital has been constructed by the Jammu Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation at a cost of Rs 37.81 crore and was planned to house the departments of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Oral Surgery and Maxiofacial Surgery, Periodontics, Conservation Dentistry and Orthodontics. Reliable Sources within hospital told Early Times that the construction work on the multi crore project was started in 2010. Despite spending huge amount, the building yet remains vacant as the faculty of the college has shown no interest to shift to new block. The senior faculty have rued that they were not consulted by the executing agency to know their priorities while designing and constructing the block. "During construction work a delegation of senior faculty members had reportedly called on the Principal regarding modifications in the ongoing construction and then the Principal had assured them that he would make a proposal and take up with executive agency Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation (JKPCC) as the State Health and Medical Education Department; but their suggestions were not incorporated," sources alleged, demanding modifications according to their professional needs. Sources further stated the senior faculty members have sent many reminders to the administration of the IGGDC Jammu to take up matter but nothing has been done in this regards despite repeated assurances from higher officers. When contacted, Manager JKPCC Jammu Deepak Koul said the administration of the hospital has informed them verbally, but they have not received any written document form them. "The modifications in the newly inaugurated building could not be done until the administration asked us officially, "he added. |
