Mehbooba gives go-ahead to crack down on protestors | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 7: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has approved the plan of the central government to go all out against the troublemakers in the Valley. The CM had made it clear that even if it will cost her politically she is ready to end the senseless and now seemingly recurring cycle of violence. "The Home Ministry, after a detailed meeting with the Prime Minister and also with the top officials of the security agencies had communicated to the CM that time has come to take a tough call. The CM gave her consent and the directions have been issued to the state police in this regard," said an official. Source said the Home Ministry has communicated to the CM that not only the troublemakers be booked under the PSA but they should have to pay a heavy cost. "The troublemakers have been identified and a list has been already prepared. We have come to know that the government is initiating action. These troublemakers include government employees. But we have also communicated that the offender booked under PSA should be sent to jails outside the Valley. It will act as a deterrent," said the official. The Home Ministry's new strategy comes after a senior police official of the state had communicated that there was no clear cut policy in dealing with the protestors and that their hands were also tied with conflicting statements of the CM. "The earlier impression that government gave was to allow the protestors to hold protests, hoping it will die down soon. But it only emboldened them and the situation slipped out of control. Now the state government has come out with a clear policy and we will go hard after them and will the bring situation to normalcy," said the official. |
