No move to withdraw security from separatists for now | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 7: Though a huge amount over Rs 500 crore is being spent on the security of separatist leaders in Valley, there is no move to withdraw the security of the separatist leaders and the speculations made in this regard were unfounded. According to official sources there is no move to withdraw the security of the separatist leaders including Hurriyat hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani the mastermind of present unrest in Kashmir. The withdrawal of security to the separatist leaders will amount to inviting more trouble which the government is not going to do at this juncture, sources added. Sources said acting tough against the separatists and Hurriyat leadership which is behind the present unrest in the Valley, does not mean the withdrawal of the security as this way government will invite more trouble for itself. However, the Government may crack down on the separatists as well as militants and also freeze their bank accounts and unearth the source which is funding the separatist movement in the Valley, sources said. Sources said the Government is seriously pondering over taking some harsh steps to counter the present unrest in the Valley by taking stern action against the separatist leadership and the investigations against the separatists as well as son of Hurriyat hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani will continue. Sources said withdrawing of security from separatists will provide a chance to Pakistan to make any mischief to aggravate the situation further in Kashmir. However it is committed to act tough against the separatists and terrorists and a concrete policy in this regard is being devised by the Union Government, sources added. Sources said to take the opposition leaders into confidence after holding a meeting of APD at Union Capital today the Centre will give practical shape to its new strategy on Kashmir within a day or two. While it will show leniency towards the youth and common man and take extra measures to ensure that there should not be any more loss of life and find out possibilities of restoring normalcy by holding talks with anyone who means in Kashmir at the same time it will not hesitate in acting tough against the separatist leadership and terrorists by launching a major crackdown on them. Rubbishing the idea of withdrawal of privileges of separatist leaders, CPI (M) leader and M P D Raja today told reporters in Union Capital after the APD meeting. "Who has told you this? Has any statement come from government in this regard or has Union Home Minister made an announcement about the same?" raja questioned. When his attention was drawn by a reporter about the media reports Raja said that media reports were based on speculations, they were wrong. "The report can only be authenticated when it comes from government side and the Home Minster has not said anything about it", he added. |
