Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 7: RTI activist and Advocate Vilakshana Singh today demanded arrest of Syed Ali Shah Geelani to bring normalcy in the valley.
Vilakshana Singh said the Information provided to him under RTI Act by the J&K State government reveals that there are at-least 28 FIRs registered against Syed Ali Shah Geelani for the commission of various non-bailable offences in the state and the Challan has been presented in the court of law in only two FIRs and the rest of the FIRs have been shown under investigation inspite of the fact that some of the FIRs have been registered against him way back in 2004.
"Offences for commission of which the FIRs have been registered against Syed Ali Shah Geelnai includes offences under Section 124-A RPC (Sedition) which carries maximum punishment of life imprisonment, Section 153-A RPC which carries maximum punishment of imprisonment for 10 years, Section 4 of Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) which carries maximum punishment upto Life Imprisonment, Section 19 Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act which carries maximum punishment of life imprisonment, Section 13 Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, which carries maximum punishment of imprisonment upto 7 years. FIR u/s Section 19 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 is registered against those persons who voluntarily harbors or conceals or attempts to harbor or conceal any person knowing that such person is a terrorist", said, and added that the law should be equal for all and no one should be above law and justice should not only be done but must seem to be done.
"But the above said information clearly reveals that Syed Ali Shah Geelani is being treated above law. Such special treatment to the anti national elements has discouraged the nationalists in the state of J&K", he said and added that on one hand the PDP-BJP coalition government claims that only 5% Kashmiris believe in violence and rest 95% want peace on the other hand this government cannot muster courage to arrest Syed Ali Shah Geelani in the FIRs already registered against him for commission of serious non-bailable offences fearing outburst of handful of anti nationals.
He further said that the information provided under the RTI Act reveals in most of the FIRs Syed Ali Shah Geelani is yet to be arrested inspite of the fact thatthe offences committed by him are non-bailable and have been committed decades ago.
Singh further said that instead of arresting Syed Ali Shah Geelani for the commission of serious offences, the state government is spending crores of rupees for his security whereas he deserves to be put behind the bars.
Vilakshana Singh said that the arrest of Syed Ali Shah Geelani would give a strong message to the all the anti nationalist forces and would give a moral boost to the nationalists in the state of J&K. By bowing before and by failing to take action against Syed Ali Shah Geelani the present BJP-PDP government is in a way promoting terrorism in the state.
