No water supply for Gujjar Basti since Independence | | | Arun Trisal Early Times Report
Kathua, Sept, 16 : Nearly 500 people of Gujjar Basti are deprived off basic facilities specifically drinking water supply since Independence at village Dral, 15 km here from Kathua town. Women have to carry water from 5 km on foot through wilderness and forest areas that would be an alarming bell for their security too. Despite number of deputations to concerned authority and legislator, water supply is yet to provide. Sharif Md., a local, appraised that there village was lack of drinking water supply since Independence due to negligence of concerned Legislator and PHE officials. He informed that women spent entire day in carrying of water that affected daily life. He said, " Despite of several reminder, nobody in administration and government bother about our problem which is genuine and must be solved on priority basis," and added that people demanded deep hand pump that would mitigate their problem Bina Din, another villager, informed their protest and said 500 people affected due to shortage of water supply, PHE tube well gets defunct in routine, water pipes have been damaged but no officials took any effort to restore PHE supply. Pouli & Reema, local women said," shortage of water supply affects their domestic routine besides punctuality of the children in schools as they have to carry water for washing clothes, drinking and for live-stock. They appealed government to install a deep hand pump that would mitigate their demand. The protesters threatened to block national highway unless government install deep pump in village Dral of tehsil Kathua near Janglote. |
