PDP Mantri drops bombshell, contradicts Rajnath Singh | 'Restoration of law and order to take just one more month' | | Hyder Ali
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Sept 16: Contradicting the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh who asked the state government to restore law and order in restive Kashmir within a week, a Minister from the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) has said that it will take "one more month to overcome" the crisis. "Don't worry it will take just one more month to restore normalcy in Kashmir and we're confident at doing it," the Minister told some people from Kashmir during his interaction with them at the Indira Gandhi Airport in New Delhi. The Minister, who is also a religious scholar, having replaced his late father at the pulpit, was seen sitting among "commoners" at the airport waiting to board Indigo flight to Kashmir. He was accompanied by family members. While majority of co-passengers from Kashmir refrained from any interaction with the minister, some of the government officials, who were scheduled to travel by the same flight, rushed out to greet him. At least two of them were presumed to be senior police officials. As a few more people came out to greet the minister, one of them in a bid to please him asked a relevant question. "Sir the people around you here are curious to know by when shall normalcy be restored in Kashmir?" the man asked. "Aray don't worry... We are at it. It will take just one more month," the minister responded. Some of the bystanders, actually co-passengers, started laughing. "How ridiculous it is that he flaunts it will take another 30 long days, as if previous two months were no enough. Or does he find no difference between 30 minutes and one month?" the co-passengers ridiculed, even as some started giggling. Finding any further interaction with the minister awkward, those talking to him slowly walked away. "How can he shamelessly say it will take just one more month to restore normalcy when Home Minister has sought restoration of normalcy within seven days," quipped a government functionary as the passengers boarded the plane. Earlier this week, Rajnath Singh directed Jammu and Kashmir Police to restore normalcy within week. The minister's comment triggered heated debate as the flight took off with most of the passengers terming him insensitive. Now some of the civilian passengers decided to have a word with the minister after landing. "Let's put some serious questions to this man, who asks youth to participate in water sports when Valley reels under curfew. Is he ignorant about ground realities or is he playing another Nero of Rome," said a co-passenger adding "We live in a democratic country where ministers are supposed to be accountable for what they do and speak." But to their shock, the moment the flight landed in Srinagar, unlike the national capital, the minister was accorded VIP treatment. A few officials who were waiting for his arrival took him straight to VIP lounge, where entry is restricted. From there he headed for his bulletproof cavalcade as his escort asked people to "maintain distance" from him. The curious co passengers, who wished to pose questions, looked upset. "Our questions remained unanswered in Kashmir, it was better to have caught hold of him in New Delhi," they regretted as they too left for their homes. Despite repeated attempts the minister couldn't be contacted for comments. |
