Curfew re-imposed in Srinagar, other major towns in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Sept 16: Curfew has been re-imposed in the summer capital Srinagar and other major towns in Kashmir valley, where 83 people were killed and over 8600 others injured in security force action during the last 70 days. Police said curfew has been re-imposed in Srinagar and other major towns and tehsils headquarters in Kashmir valley to maintain law and order. Elsewhere in the valley restriction on assembly of people under Sec 144 (CRPC) will continue to remain enforce till further orders. Meanwhile, internet services of all companies, including BSNL and private services providers, remained suspended since September 12, badly affecting mediapersons, students and job seekers, who could not file their applications to different companies outside the state. Local newspapers have also been badly affected due to the ban on internet as majority of them have not been able to hit the stands while some of them were updating their web portals from Jammu or Delhi. Meanwhile, the separatist have extended the strike till September 22, demanding the right to 'self determination.' The separatist have also urged people to march towards mosques in their respective areas to pay homage to the people killed in the current unrest, besides holding 'freedom conjurations' after Friday prayers. Chairman of Hardline Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani remained under house-arrest since his return from New Delhi in April. Moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Maulvi Omar Farooq remained lodged in sub-jail Cheshmashahi while Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Mohammad Yasin Malik remained detained in Central Jail, Srinagar. |
