Karra seeks constitutional amendment to please separatists | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Sept 18: The former PDP MP Tariq Karra in his another bizarre demand has pitched for the amendment of the Indian constitution to pacify peoples' anger in Kashmir. He has said that the constitution isn't a 'divine book' that cannot be amended. Karra , known for his anti PDP rants, formally quit the party on September 16 and is now giving wide range of interviews to the media houses in a bid to prove how his decision of parting ways from the PDP wasn't wrong. However, as Karra is busy issuing statements that elucidate his tectonic shift in stand, he has stirred hornet's nest by calling for the amendment of the Indian constitution. "Even if I say within the ambit of the Constitution that doesn't mean the Constitution cannot be attuned to the wishes of the people. It is not a divine book which cannot be amended. It has been amended hundreds of times. In order to bring peace and save the lives of the people, if the Constitution has to be amended I don't think that would be anti-national," Karra was quoted as having said during a detailed interview on Sunday. But, what Karra has failed to do on ground was to impress people through his resignation. In the press conference, he termed the alliance between the BJP and the PDP as the main reason that compelled him to resign. On April 4, this year, Karra out in open supported BJP- PDP bonhomie in Jammu and Kashmir. The day when the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti sworn in as the first lady chief minister, Karra issued a detailed statement, saying he advocated PDP-BJP alliance so that he could save the party from the clutches of modern day political toddlers and paratroopers. Though Karra voiced concern against the induction of the two PDP ministers into Mehbooba's cabinet, he didn't raise any objection to PDP- BJP stitching common ground for the government formation. Sources divulged that Karra is all set to flout his own political party that would strive to fish in Kashmir's troubled waters. He has already stated that he would work for to establish such a force that would, according to him, represent the dissent. "Congress has been holding parleys with Karra since long time. It is Karra who has turned mercurial and moody and isn't sure at all about whether to strike a deal with Congress or to flout his own political party," sources privy to the development said. It was informed further that national conference too has been trying to approach Karra for the party believes that this former parliament member can have a better grip on some areas of Srinagar city. "Karra so far has successfully managed to get a good headline amid the brewing unrest in valley. He would surely try to utilize the points he has scored at present in future or we can say once the situation gets back to normal," says NC leader, wishing not to be named. |
