Uri aftermath: CCS to assess JK security afresh | | | Ishtiyaq Ahmad Early Times Report Srinagar, Sept 18: In the backdrop of deadly attack on Army in Uri Baramulla, the Central Government has reportedly decided to call an emergency 'cabinet committee on security' meeting to recalibrate the security measures in Jammu and Kashmir. Reliable sources in the central government told Early Times that the meeting is likely to be held any time now in New Delhi and is likely to be attended by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister ,Defense Minister, Home Secretary and National Security Advisor. Sources said that the Union Government believes that all the militant activities in Jammu and Kashmir are being directed from across the border and therefore some hard steps need to be taken in this regard. Sources said that strengthening of the internal security machinery will also be the agenda of the meeting. 17 Army soldiers were killed in a major militant attack at an army base in Uri near the Line of Control on Sunday. The attack was deadliest in recent years. Meanwhile sources said that union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi will visit Srinagar Monday to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of the terror attack in Uri. Following a directive of Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Mehrishi will visit Srinagar and attend a series of meetings with officials of the state government, army, police and paramilitary force and take stock of the situation in the state, official sources said. The Union Home Secretary is also expected to meet Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and discuss with them the law and order situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and Army Chief Dalbir Singh Suhag reached the state earlySunday after the killing of 17 soldiers in Uri. |
