Police officers fight over FIR against powerful businessman | | | Early Times Report
Anantnag, Sept 18: At a time when whole security grid is trying to bring back normalcy to the turbulent Valley, two senior police officers in south Kashmir have locked horns over registration of an FIR against an influential businessman. Highly placed sources told Early Times that the reason behind confrontation between Station House officer (SHO) and Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) is registration of FIR against an influential businessman and subsequently imprisoning him for a night for committing an offence punishable under 420 RPC and violating the standing High Court directions. Sources said that a few weeks ago, the SHO was tipped off about extraction of sand and other construction material from a nallah upon which he acted and nabbed the culprits. "Initially, a police party sent by the SHO to the spot picked only three laborers but later when they found the businessman there he too was arrested," sources said. They said the businessman wasn't allowed to go though he repeatedly told the SHO that he is enjoying the patronage of SDPO. "SDPO sahab has given us permission to extract the material," the laborers had told the cops. A cop said the SDPO called the SHO many a time and asked him not file an FIR against the businessman. But the SHO went ahead and registered an FIR against the businessman. The SHO, against the wish of SDPO not only registered FIR against the businessman but put him inside the lock-up for a night as well. He also demolished the businessman's illegally raised structure with the help of other two nodal agencies. Sources said that confrontation between the two police officers took a twist when the SDPO managed the transfer of at least four cops escorting the SHO. |
