NSF demands probe in substandard constructions in DDE building | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 18: Taking serious note over the dilapidated condition of the newly constructed building of Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), which was commissioned in January 2014, Amit Sanotra, Secretary of National Secular Forum (NSF) flayed the University authorities for facilitating large scale corruption in the work done by the executing agencies in the construction of the said building. Addressing a press conference, Amit Sanotra demanded thorough probe into the matter. He said "The public exchequer is being looted without any fear and under the watchful eyes of the officials sitting at the helm of affairs in University of Jammu (JU). The present condition of the new building of Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), which has deteriorated fast within the two years of its commissioning speaks at volume that corruption on large scale has been done by the work executing agencies in connivance with the University officials," he alleged and added had if the University authorities were concerned to the misuse of the Public exchequer a high level enquiry should have been initiated by the authorities into this matter and make sure that strict actions against those responsible. The building was constructed at a huge cost of Rs 4.5 crore, he revealed. He revealed that plaster has loosened from various sides which indicate that poor quality cement was used or used less, besides the seepage of water has almost destroyed all the walls from inside. "Due to seepage, the wooden panelling has been done in Library hall. But it is impossible to done the same in all the halls as it require huge sum of money. Further, the windows are also lying damaged," he lamented, and added that no one in JU takes pain in fixing accountability for deterioration of DDE's new building. Pertinently, the Governor had inaugurated the six storied building of the Directorate of Distance Education having lecture halls, seminar hall, library, Student Facilitation cafeteria, etc, in Jan'2016. "Even he had pointed out on the day of inauguration that sub-standard was used in construction and sooner or later it would be visible to all but he couldn't do much as the building was required as venue as JU was hosting prestigious Indian Science Congress. He disclosed that the extent of wear and tear suffered by the building in a span of little over two years of commissioning has raised many eye-brows but, the administrators were least bothered to fix the accountability and pin-point the persons under whose supervision the building was constructed using sub-standard material which couldn't withstand the impact of weather vagaries for even two years. We also seek the intervention of Governor to save the University from clutches of corrupt officials and Engineers. NSF has demanded thorough probe in the bungling done in DDE New building. Among those who were present in the press-conference included, Arun Manhas, Varun Dogra, and Arjun. |
