Uri attack: Militants had changed their look to portray as Indian soldiers | | | Ishtiyaq Ahmad
Early Times Report Srinagar, Sept 19: The security establishments probing the deadliest suicide attack on Army in Uri have observed that militants had changed their get up to portray themselves as the soldiers of Indian Army with the sole motive to inflict as much causalities as possible. The security establishments are also believed that the highly inflammable explosive powder was used in the attack which caused more causalities. Sources told early TIMES that after examining the bodies of militants killed in the attack, it was observed that they had tried their best to resemble the Indian Army soldiers. "They had done a zero hair cut and were almost clean shaved, the features of an Indian soldier. They were also wearing Army combat uniform just to give an impression they were part of the Indian Army," sources said. Sources said that the security establishment is also probing a two-point breach, first at the Line of Control (LoC) at Uri and the second at the perimeter of the Army base that saw the fencing wire being cut. "It is believed that the two lapses helped militants access the heavily-guarded camp and execute one of the deadliest suicide attacks," sources said. Sources in the Army said that the attack has also left many lessons to learn for Army. "One of the important thing is that has resulted in a major cause of worry for Army is the highly inflammable substance or highly inflammable gun powder used by the militants to target tents and barracks. The militants first showered the powder in and around the tents and barracks and then resorted to indiscriminate firing resulting in the instant fire of the tents and barracks," sources maintained. Sources said that soldiers were sleeping in the tents which caught fire. Sources said that the samples of powder used by the militants have been taken by the experts and would be sent to Defence Laboratory Jodhpur and Defence Laboratory Hyderabad. It is to mention here that agencies on Sunday pointed to a recce of the administrative base and did not rule out help from a 'mole' or overground worker in alerting the militants to troop positions within the camp. "The militants were aware of the layout of the camp and knew their way around. They had possibly identified the stretches where the fence was not properly manned and accordingly found a safe spot to cut the perimeter wire," security agencies have pointed out, according to sources. |
