Nation wants action, not official condemnation | Uri attack | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 19: It would be misnomer to call the Pakistani attack on Uri Army camp as terrorist attack. It was not terrorist attack; it was an open act of war unleashed on India by Pakistan and the attack was well-planned. The dreaded attack left 18 of our jawans killed and dozens others wounded, some of them seriously. 13 of the soldiers were virtually burned alive when they were sleeping. Pakistan caused this act of war through Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists who were liquidated by the Army after they had caused damage and martyred our soldiers. This was the biggest attack in a decade and it established that Pakistan was behind it. The terrorists who were liquidated were heavily armed and they carried with them ammunition manufactured in Pakistan or with Pakistani mark on the deadly weapons these Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists carried with them. Jaish-e-Mohammad, like Lashkar-e-Toiba, is virtually a terror wing of the Pakistani Army and the Army controlled Inter-service Intelligence. The attack on Uri has shocked and angered the whole of the nation. There were protests across the country and in Jammu on Sundayand there were similar protests across the country on Monday. The strategic affairs experts, former diplomats, former Army Generals, common people, women, children, elders and who not all spoke in one voice on Sunday and spoke in one voice on Monday. Enough is enough, they, without any exception, said. They said the nation doesn't want condemnation of the attack; it wants New Delhi to act and avenge the attack. The former Army generals said time has come to raise the cost to show Pakistan its place. They said the Prime Minister, and not the Home Minister, should handle the issue. They were critical of the fact that the BJP-led NDA government didn't hold meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security, which is chaired by the Prime Minister and of which the Home Minister, the Foreign Minister, the Defence Minister and the Finance minister are members. They said the Indian defence policy had been defensive and reactionary and if New Delhi continued to follow this policy, the results will be disastrous for India. They suggested surgical operations inside POJK, where terrorist training camps have been set up by Pakistan and the spots which Pakistan uses as launching pads. The former diplomats emphasized the need to get Pakistan isolated and exposed and undertake measures which hit Pakistan hard. Some of them demanded that India must snap all ties with Pakistan forth with and declare Pakistan High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit as persona non-grata. He should be thrown out of India without losing a moment. Some suggested that New Delhi should scrap the Indus Water Treaty and stop exporting water to Pakistan. Some talked sanctions. And almost all the former Army Commanders and former diplomats denounced in their own style the Union Ministers, saying while the nation was bleeding, the ministers were tweeting. They were particularly critical of Home Minister Rajnath Singh. It was not time tweeting; it was time for action; they said. Statements will not do; we have heard statements in the past; they said, and added that if India was to remain intact, Pakistan had to be taught a lesson. And as for the common people, they demanded only one thing: Action, action and action. One thing is clear: The Modi Government has to appreciate the national sentiment and act and if it fails like in the past, people would abandon it. |
