Pakistan trained militants on the offensive in Uri | | | It was a major and unprecedented inci dent when 18 soldiers were killed when the camp in which they were staying was set on fire by militants. As soon as they came out of the blazing tent they came under heavy fire from, the militants who had sneaked in recent days from across Uri sector. In fact this was a major infiltration bid that could not be foiled by the troops in Uri sector. It was a great loss and despite the fact that Army functionaries have decided to send additional forces to guard the LOC. It seems that there has been delay in sending additional companies of troops to the LOC. It is not simple affair. This time militants adopted a new strategy under which they targetted a tent or a camp in which troops were staying and with the help of an explosion, whether bomb or grenade, they set the tent or camp on fire forcing the soldiers to move out quickly. The moment they moved out they were targeted by militants and there was still a major exchange of fire in which four militants were killed. That should be no satisfaction for either the Government or to the Army. Eighteen soldiers were killed in a militant attack in Uri area of Baramulla district and 22 others injured on the other day.. Police sources sad that fidayeen militants stormed an Army camp in Uri near the Line of Control (LoC) around 4 a.m. Four militants were killed in the encounter. A group of heavily armed terrorists targeted the rear administrative base of a unit at Uri, Kashmir. In the counter action, four terrorists were eliminated and combing operations are in progress,. The administrative base had large strength of troops of units turning over after their tour of duty who were stationed in tents/temporary shelters which caught fire, and resulted in heavy casualties. We salute the sacrifice of 18 soldiers who were martyred in the operation."Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar will visit Kashmir to meet the injured soldiers. Home Minister Rajnath Singh has postponed his visit to Russia and the U.S in the wake of the terror attack. Singh was to leave for Russia on Sunday for a four-day visit. After Russia, he was to leave on a week-long visit to the U.S on September 27 to attend the Homeland Security Dialogue. A message posted by the Home Minister's Twitter handle said, "Keeping the situation of Jammu and Kashmir in mind and in the wake of terror attack in Uri, I have postponed my visits to Russia and the USA."The Uri incident is a major incident which should open the eyes of the UN and the US where Pakistan is making frantic efforts for raking up the Kashmir issue. Let the international community join hands and resolve to end the menace of export of terror to Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan is suffering from the menace of terror machinery and series explosions and armed attacks are being launched on mosques, Army camps killing scores of people. And this time India has taken a strong and serious notice of the Uri incident and some measures were being initiated to check repetition of such devastating incident. And still Pakistan will claim that it is innocent and has not been using its soil for exporting terror to Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister, Modi has vowed to take action against the perpetrators of the attack. What sort of action he will take is going to be a collective decision of the Army the union cabinet and that too in view of the growing ties between Islamabad and Beijing. |
