| In 74 days of Kashmir unrest, 20 intrusion bids foiled | | 30 terrorists killed, 3 nabbed; 34 jawans martyred | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 20: An abrupt increase in infiltration attempts by the Pak-sponsored terrorists has been witnessed during the 74 days of valley unrest, post the Burhan killing, with the troops foiling 20 intrusion bids and neutralising 30 terrorists in encounters with them, besides capturing three. 34 jawans also attained martyrdom in the gunfights.
Most of the infiltration bids were reported from across the LoC in Kashmir. The troops, however, foiled all these attempts, killing 30 terrorists, mostly Pakistanis, and apprehending three alive. 34 jawans were also martyred in the gunfights.
"Pakistan, which fuelled the valley unrest after Burhan's killing on July 8 last, now wants to push as many terrorists as it can into the Indian territory before the onset of winters to keep the Kashmir pot boiling," official sources said.
As part of its strategy to step up terror attacks, Pakistan also pushed terrorists into the Poonch town of Jammu region a few days back, but the whole group was eliminated by the troops before it could make a strike.
Pakistan seems to have set into motion all its resources to continue fuelling trouble in the valley. A few days back, a Pak spy plane entered the Indian territory in Kashmir and then flew back after making a recce of the vital LoC areas. Militant commanders too have been indulging in India bashing after the Burhan's killing.
A change in terrorists' strategy has been observed in the valley areas. They nowadays mingle with crowds and then open fire, targeting the law-enforcing agencies. At least a dozen such incidents have been reported from different valley areas during the days of valley unrest.
Terror incidents in last 74 days
o Terrorists, who were part of a crowd, opened fire on Shopian SP's vehicle, injuring two cops.
o Pak fired on Indian posts in Keran sub-sector of Kupwara, resulting in the martyrdom of a jawan.
o A DSP's vehicle was targeted at Zainpora.
o Troops foiled a major infiltration bid from across the LoC in Poonch sector, killing three Pakistani terrorists.
o In two incidents in Nowgam sub-sector of Kupwara, six infiltrating terrorists were shot dead by the alert troops while one was captured alive. Two jawans were also martyred.
o One militant was killed by troops in Nowgam sub-sector while a civilian was shot dead by terrorists at Laithpora.
o Troops foiled an intrusion bid from Machail sub-sector and killed a militant. In the gunfight, three BSF personnel also attained martyrdom.
o A local was killed in Keran area.
o 16 persons were wounded in a grenade attack at Poonch.
o A CRPF CO attained martyrdom in a militant attack at Nowhatta on Independence Day.
o Troops killed five terrorists in Uri sub-sector, foiling an infiltration bid by them.
o Five cops were wounded in a grenade attack on Kakpora police station.
o A woman was injured in Pak firing on LoC at Poonch.
o Three jawans were killed in an attack on army convoy at Baramulla.
o Three cops were injured in attack on BSF camp at Kupwara.
o Terrorists attacked MLA's house at Shopian and snatched weapons of guards.
o Troops killed three terrorists in Tangdhar sub-sector, foiling an infiltration bid by them.
o SP, DSP were among 18 hurt in a grenade attack.
o A jawan was wounded as troops foiled an intrusion bid in Tangdhar sub-sector.
o A cop was killed at Pulwama.
o A jawan was killed as troops foil infiltration bid in Akhnoor sub-sector of Jammu.
o Terrorists struck at MLA's house and fled after snatching weapons from the guards.
o Two terrorists were held from Kulwara.
o Three jawans were hurt in a militant attack on an army convoy at Anantnag.
o Pulwama police station was attacked by terrorists.
o Terrorists attacked a politician's house at Kulgam and fled after snatching weapons from the cops who were on guard duty.
o A CRPF camp was attacked.
o Troops foiled three infiltration bids, killing four terrorists in Nowgam sub-sector and four in Poonch sector.
o Anantnag police station was attacked, resulting in the death of a cop and injuries to 14 others.
o In an early morning attack on army brigade headquarters at Uri, 18 jawans attained martyrdom. All the four attackers were later shot dead by the troops.
o Weapons were snatched from the cops who were deployed at the residence of a PDP leader.
o Terrorists attacked two police posts.
o Troops foiled infiltration from across the LoC in Uri area, killing at least 10 terrorists. A jawan also sacrificed his life. |
