PM Modi gives nod to carry out 'effective retaliation' | Uri Attack Aftermath | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 20: Two days after Pak sponsored terrorists attacked an Army camp at Uri in north Kashmir and martyred 18 soldiers, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is understood to have given his nod to carry out an "effective retaliation" against Pakistan. Sources told Early Times the Prime Minister has asked three service chiefs to take a decision on how to retaliate and has put the ball in their court. "The Defence minister Manohar Parikkar and three services chiefs held a detailed meeting with the Prime Minister and discussed different options," sources added. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi is understood to have told the Army, Air-Force and Naval chiefs to wait for the present session of United Nations to get over first and then go for the offensive action. Sources said that Prime Minister has asked his ministers to divide themselves in groups and visit different countries to apprise them about the terror unleashed by the Pakistan sponsored terrorists and their agents in Kashmir. Sources said that the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had taken similar initiative in 1971 war and had sent her ministers to different countries before launching a counter offensive against Pakistan. Sources said the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is understood to have made it clear to the service chiefs that offensive should be effective and prompt. "The main target of the India armed forces could be the terrorist training camps at Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) and bases of different terror outfits," they added. Recalling the 9/11 Mumbai attack, a defence analyst said, "That time around the then government headed by Dr Manmohan Singh did not give the nod to carry out the counter offensive that is why armed forces did not carry out any attack on the terrorists camps in PoK at that point of time." Her said, "This time around situation is different and Prime Minister giving his nod to go ahead has cleared the decks for the armed forces to chalk out the future strategy." An analyst said, "If Dr Manmohan Singh led government had taken action against Pakistan after 9/11 attacks and destroyed the terrorist camps all the issues would have been resolved by now. Let's hope that Prime Minister Narendra Modi sticks to his stand and doesn't succumb under international pressure. Pakistan needs to be taught a lesson. It has turned into a breeding ground for terrorists and its exporting terror to India and other south Asian countries." He said, "Pakistan has always considered our desire for peace as our weakness and has left no chance to bleed us. Now the time has come to hit back and settle all the scores." |
