Year on, Sunderbani meeting hall construction yet to commence | Govt plans retendering to benefit BJP worker | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 8: In 2015, work for construction of much-awaited Meeting Hall at Sunderbani tehsil in Rajauri district was allotted to a contractor, who successfully bagged the tender. But for over a year, the commencement of work is put on hold as the government plans to retender the work to allegedly benefit a worker of ruling BJP. Official sources said, prompted by public appeals that the tehsil was without a meeting hall, the Public Works Department (PWD) in 2014 floated tenders for the work, estimated to cost around Rs 30 lakhs. Last year after the allotment of the work to successful bidder, Krishen Lal, officials said the work was supposed to be started within three months while the building was expected to be commissioned by now. "But the contractor was asked not to start the work as the ruling BJP wants the work to be allotted to one of their workers in the area," said a source in the PWD asking not to be named. Contractor Krishen Lal, who had bagged the tender, said the commencement of his work was being unduly hindered on one pretext or the other by the authorities. The residents of Sunderbani who had approached the PWD seeking immediate commencement of work termed the dilly-dallying tactics as part of "Gunda Raaj." "This is nothing but BJPs Gunda Raaj that much-needed public work is being delayed only because the ruling government wants to benefit its own workers of BJP. This is shameless favoritism," the residents said. "Enough is enough. We will move Court if the work is retendered as we are fed up of this Gunda Gardi," the locals said. When contacted the concerned Executive Engineer of Nowshehra Division of PWD declined to comment on the issue and dropped the phone. |
