Won't beg for help, say transporters | | | Early Times Report srinagar, Oct 8: Sensing more protests and public resentment against the ongoing senseless agitation, Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani's fresh diktat to people to donate a minimum of Rs 500 for transporters has irked the community. "Every person knows that ongoing agitation is affecting only poor be it a transporter or a poor student. Only schools and transport system stands affected due to Geelani's strike calendar," a transporter told Early Times. He said that he would never approach self acclaimed Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leaders and activists for help. "I am a National Conference worker I will never approach them or take their money instead I will prefer to die," he added. Like him, several transporters in southern Kashmir expressed same feelings and rejected Geelani's idea to "beg for them." "It is not the question of help. Let me tell you honestly children of rich families have moved to Jammu and other states for tuitions but ours have been left in lurch because of the shutdown as government has failed to reopen schools," said Javaid Ahmad, a Kulgam resident said. The intelligence sleuths have already informed the government about the efforts of separatists to stretch the ongoing unrest further once the harvest season is over. "We have been told to complete the harvesting season till15th of October after that here will be frequent Chalo calls," A resident of Anantnag said. Yesterday in Bijbehara, on the occasion of Friday prayers, a local preacher read out a Hizb-ul-Mujahdeen letter requesting people to remain firm and show steadfastness by continuing the strike. |
