Kashmir unrest takes ugly turn, miscreants burn vehicles, shops | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 11: Apprehensions of the saner people in Kashmir that continuous shutdown and strikes would trigger a civil war in Kashmir are coming true with each passing day. On Tuesday evening miscreants set ablaze two private vehicles (No. JK01N-6690) (Estello) and (No. JK02AB-103) (Swift-VDI) at Goripora crossing near Snooker Hall on city outskirts. It's in place to mention here that prior to this incident miscreants had set on fire two auto-rickshaws in old city, while a Maruti van was also set ablaze during night at Chattabal. Sources said that separatists and their few supporters are feeling unnerved due to people defying their calendar and making an attempt to resume their daily chores. "Separatists, who are still out, are under pressure from their bosses sitting across the Line of Control (LoC) not to let the life return to normal in Kashmir. Now they are trying to terrorize the people by attacking their shops and vehicles," sources added. They said that despite government lifting curfew from most parts of the Valley, separatists and their henchmen are not allowing people to come out of their homes. "Setting the private vehicles on fire seems to be a ploy aimed at preventing people from coming out of their homes. So that tension keeps on prevailing in the air," the source added. In yet another incident at least six shops were gutted in a mysterious fire at Qamarwari Chowk in Srinagar last night. Sources said that some unidentified persons had informed the shopkeepers through a letter to open their shops only during relaxation period but a few of them defied the diktat. Besides these shopkeepers a few vendors for the past month have been erecting stalls in Qammerwari area. "I lost everything in the fire. We don't know who set our shops on fire but we have firm reasons to believe that we were targeted for defying the diktats of those who claim to be the well wishers of Kashmiris," said a shopkeeper. A police official said, "It seems that people who are on the payroll of Pakistan have changed their strategy. Instead of coming out in open now they are burning shops and vehicles during night. The present agitation has taken an ugly turn as criminals are calling the shots and are trying to settle their personal scores by terrifying the people." "Police have been busy with tackling law and order situation. Now another challenging situation has emerged. Burning shops and vehicles indicates that situation is turning from bad to worse," said a source. |
