Meeting on J&K; none from Jammu, Ladakh | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 15: J&K has been in the news for almost 100 days now. Of course, dust has started settling in Kashmir, but the attitude of the Kashmiri leaders from the so-called Kashmir-based mainstream parties towards India and Jammu and Ladakh has not changed. It has become more hostile. Some leaders have gone totally insensitive. They have forgotten that there are two other regions of the state. The Kashmiri leaders have turned exceptionally biased against New Delhi, Jammu and Ladakh. It became clear on Friday when Kashmiri leaders of all the political parties, barring the PDP and the BJP met at the residence of NC president Farooq Abdullah to discuss the political situation in the state and formulate a strategy aimed at making New Delhi resolve the Kashmir issue. The composition of the meeting was disturbing. Disturbing because all those who attended the meeting belonged toKashmir. There were no leaders from Jammu and Ladakh regions not even from amongst those belonging to the parties of the leaders who participated in the meeting. All were from Kashmir. They included State Congress chief, Ghulam Ahmed Mir, CPI (M) State Secretary, Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami, Peoples' Democratic Front (PDF) Chairman, Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen and Democratic Party Nationalist (DPN) President, Ghulam Hassan Mir. The NC President Farooq Abdullah presided over the meeting, who also addressed the media after the meeting was over. And what did Farooq Abdullah tell the waiting media persons? Insensitive as he was, he attacked the media saying don't ask him question about the Uri attack and martyrdom of 19 jawans. He said terrorism would end only after the Kashmir was resolved. In other words, he spoke the Pakistani language and said the Kashmir was the cause that needed to be tackled by New Delhi. He, like Syed Ali Shah Geelani, demanded release of all seditionists from jails; he called them political prisoners. He askedNew Delhi to engage with Pakistan without losing a moment and he made this outrageous suggestion when the Indian nation is seething with anger and chaffing and demanding action against Pakistan and Kashmiri separatists. He also asked New Delhi to engage with Hurriyat leaders. It was clear from what Farooq Abdulah said after the meeting that he and other Kashmiri leaders have gone totally astray and that they have virtually become agents of Pakistan without realizing the implications of their political behaviour. The composition of the meeting and what Farooq Abdullah chaired has further widened the gulf between the regions and offended the minorities. It is obvious that Jammu and Ladakh would despise them for their exclusivist approach. |
