| Early Times Report Kishtwar, Oct 15: In a mysterious fire reported in remote Sukhni village of Marwah Tehsil in Kishtwar District, at least 25 residential houses, cattle sheds and shops were gutted which broke out in the village around 5.30 PM today and spread in large area. As per the details available with "Early Times" the villagers saw the some coming out of some houses and raised an alarm, but due to non availability of road and communication, the majority of the houses made of wood were completely gutted. The locals of the area with whom the villagers established the contact from a nearby satellite telephone informed the "Early Times" that around 25 houses were destroyed in the village when last contact was established and the fire was yet to be brought under control. Locals however feeling a sense of heavenly miracle told that the only mosque and a shrine of sufi saint in the village were miraculously saved from fire. According to reports pouring from village, the remote hilly villages hosing some odd 50 houses is reduced to ashes due to this tragic fire incident. Pertinently the village Sukhni is situated under the foot hills of Nunkun mountain range and is the last village of Kishtwar District sharing its border with Ladakh and Phalgham and is about a two days journey on foot lacking proper road connectivity, electricity or communication. Villagers use fire wood to keep their houses warm as the temperature in the village mostly remain cool around the year and it is believed that the fire might have erupted in one of the house which later engulfed the whole village. Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Ghulam Nabi Balwan confirmed about the fire incident and the loss of the property in the village. He however added that due to non availability of road and communication the exact details of loss will be ascertain only after the Police and revenue parties will reach the village. Adding that all the officials of the District administration has been asked to be prepared for relief and rescue operation, he added that the matter has been brought into the notice of Divisional Commissioner Jammu. He also said that efforts are also on to airlift the relief material and the rescue team early in the morning. DC KIshtwar further added that some teams from adjoining Marwah and Inshan have been asked to rush to the village for early start of the rescue and relief operation. Pertinent to mention that Kishtwar District has witnessed many fire incidents in last one decade including the one that took place in Oct 2007 at village Margi of Warwan in which around 185 residence and over 60 cattle sheds were gutted. |
