Terror attack in Handwara, terrorists open fire at police vehicle in Tootigund | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 15: Another terror attack was reported from Jammu & Kashmir's Handwara district. Terrorists open fired at a police vehicle in Tootigund. No casualties have been reported so far. The terror strike comes barely a day after militants affiliated to Al-Umar Mujahideen targeted 3 Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB) convoys near the CRPF camp in Zakura. The modus operandi of today's terror attack appears to be similar to the one adopted by terrorists on Friday. Instead of launching a fidayeen (suicidal) attack, the terrorists have lately resorted to the strategy of 'shoot and scoot'. Handwara is gradually turning into a hotbed of militancy. In the past week, a massive encounter between the security forces and terrorists were reported from Handwara. According to reports, several cross-border terrorists are located near the region of Handwara. A search operation has been initiated by security forces to nab the terrorists who fired at the police vehicle in Tootigund. The terror attack in Zakura on Friday was carried out by Al-Umar Mujahideen, a dormant jihad outfit which was propped during the insurgency years of 1990s'. The outfit had lost its presence following the arrest of its leader Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar in 1992. The number of militant strikes in the Valley have escalated following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani. Apart from the militancy, the civilian unrest has also not been suppressed. More than 90 Kashmiris have lost their lives in retaliatory police action. At least 1,000 cases of pellet injuries have been registered. Schools, colleges and other vital institutions of Kashmir continues to remain shut over the past three months. |
