Gynaecologist suspended as woman dies after delivering baby | | | Early Times Report Rajouri, Oct 20: A woman gynaecologist has been placed under suspension by the chief medical officer after a complaint of negligence in the treatment of a patient who died 27 hours after giving birth to a female baby. Medical Superintendent of Rajouri district hospital also initiated an enquiry into the alleged episode after the family members and relatives of the deceased created ruckus Wednesday night and reportedly also thrashed a senior doctor and female staff. On the spot order for a probe into the alleged incident by three senior consultants -- Dr Neeru Gupta, Dr Jameel-ul-Hassain and Dr Shailinder Sharma -- pacified the agitated family members. Police, after completing legal formalities, handed over the body to the family members today for last rites. Shabina Kousar, wife of Shamshir Hussain of Chawa, was admitted to the district hospital on Tuesday and on Wednesday, she gave birth to a female baby at about 12 noon. The patient was stable till 3 pm on Thursday, but she developed chest problem at about 3.30 pm. After checking, the doctor advised medication. In the meantime, her condition started deteriorating and before the doctor could re-examine her, she was no more, said the medical superintendent. The CMO has also appointed Dr Rakia Parveen, consultant gynaecologist to perform duty in place of the suspended doctor. Meanwhile, according to DSP headquarters, police have also registered a case under section 304-A of RPC and started investigation after the complaint was lodged by the family members against the hospital staff for negligence in providing timely medical help to the deceased. |
