Attendance in Govt offices, vehicular movement increases | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 20: Fed up by the repeated shutdown calls by the Hurriyat leaders, people in the valley have openly defied the latest extension of bandh tillOctober 27 and instead resumed their work during the day time. The shopkeepers, auto rickshaws, and private offices have started functioning on main roads from early morning giving a tight slap to Hurriyat hawk Geelani who has issued latest shutdown calendar. An official, who wished not to be named said that people of kashmir are now fed up with these strikes. "Increased vehicular movement on Srinagar roads is an indication that people have decided that enough is enough" he said. Kashmir is gradually limping back to normalcy as valley has completed the 104 days of shutdown, people prefer to come out form the houses to resume their day to day activities instead of following the hurriyat- sponsored hartals. The civil lines areas, including the commercial hub of Lal Chowk, have witnessed a huge rush of people , and also outskirts of the city have witnessed increased vehicular movement as compared to past days. "For last several days we have witnessed that the attendance in government offices and banks has also considerably improved," he said. A large number of roadside vendors set up their stalls on the TRC crossing to Batamaloo passing through Lal Chowk, the officials said, adding the situation was improving with each passing day. The authorities have not put restrictions on the movement of people anywhere in Kashmir including the downtown areas, but security forces have been deployed to maintain law and order. "Deployment has also been made in some other areas to instill a sense of security among the people so that they can carry out their day to day activities without fear, the officials said. |
