Contractors dominate meeting chaired by PWD Minister Corruption, substandard work ignored 10/20/2016 11:20:53 PM Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 20: It were not the issues of corruption and substandard works that were discussed during a meeting chaired by the PWD Minister with a delegation of contractors. Sources said a meeting was held under the chairmanship of the PWD Minister with the contractors wherein important issues concerning the execution of work by the contractors were supposed to be discussed in consonance with the agenda. But instead it turned out to be an exchange of pleasantries, because there was no agenda of the meeting which ended with appeasing the contractors who insisted for holding 'Contractor Day' on the analogy of other days being celebrated in the country. It may seem ridiculous but it is a fact that the minister did not focus on the serious issues confronting the department and instead appeared extremely receptive to the demands of the contractors and asked the officers concerned to carry out spadework as per the proposal of the contractors, sources said. It is the general notion of the public that the works executed by the PWD are not up to the expectation and required level of standard with roads getting dilapidated soon after its execution.
