BUDGAM, Mar 12: The promises of providing basic facilities including good roads, public transport, schools, health care is still a distant dream for many villages of this central Kashmir district. The people accuse that MLA Aga Syed Rahullaha has turned deaf ears towards the problems faced by the voters of his constituency. "We believe that good roads lead to the development, it is a sign of modernization and of civilized areas, but our roads present a gory look as we have been left to fend the dust and air pollution which has caused chest and other respiratory diseases, said residents of Budgam Constituency. Residents of this constituency told Early Times that, they are lacking of basic facilities while as there are dozens of villages including Garien, Kakanmarag, Mijul, Nendanpora, Bundgam, Alapora, Wahabpora, Babpora, Chattabugh, Sofipora, Lochigaran, Garien Kalan/Bala, Wahapora and other adjacent areas where roads are in shambles.
Dusty and bumpy roads have left commuters to face immense hardships as all the major roads connecting to the Budgam district and other parts of JK are in shambles, said inhabitants of these areas.
The inhabitants of these far flung areas of this central Kashmir have complained that the dilapidated conditions of all the major roads are causing immense hardships to motorists and pedestrians.
There are dozens of brick kilns that are running illegally in this district alone, and tippers are creating dust that has become hazardous for health of students and general masses at large, said locals.
Mushtaq Ahmad, a student of GDC Budgam said that the roads are in pathetic condition and it takes almost two hours to private vehicles to reach Budgam town and if sometimes, Sumo vehicles ply on this dusty roads than it takes almost four hours to reach their destinations.
"Thankfully today's 12th political science paper was postponed, otherwise we would have missed it, I have left home at 7:30 am till 12:30 I couldn't get a public transport to reach to Budgam town", said Mushtaq.
Number of times the delegations from these areas brought this issue into the notice of MLA Budgam, Syed Aga Rahullaha and demanded for macadamisation of raods but nothing was done so for, adding some twelve years back macadamisation was done on these roads, and the condition is visible at the moment, said another student Naseer Ahmad.
He said that, Garien- Budgam via Chattabugh and Wahabpora road has also been waiting for macadamisation for years and encroachments have choked the road at several places, but the concerned MLA is hardly bothered about it.
