Under 'PDP scanner', Minister-businessman plead innocence | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 12: Even as a senior minister from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party is in the midst of a controversy over his statement that "Kashmir is not a political issue", his Cabinet colleague and a businessman, who were also present at the event have started lobbying for "safeguard personal interests." Sources said minister and his businessman friend, who allegedly have "common interests from Patnitop to Dubai" have started lobbying in the corridors of power that they didn't subscribe to the statement made by the minister about Kashmir. This is despite the fact that the duo had testified the statement made by the minister. But now the two are trying to clear the air pleading innocence as both have come under radar. Source said the duo had been under scanner of PDP for quite some time. Sources said a section of leadership in the PDP, mainly from south Kashmir, suspects that the duo was "cooking something against the larger interests of the party." Sources said the businessman who enjoys "Ashirwad" of a powerful lobby in Kashmir has been playing a dubious role by behaving like "Har Thali Ka Baigan" only to meet his business interests ranging from illegal constructions to loans. Sources said smelling a rat in his "extra curricular" activities, a group of PDP leaders close to the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had lobbied to get a statement released against the businessman for this "dubious activities." Sources said the businessman was trying to step into the shoes of the PDP leadership by behaving like "kingmaker." "He had some wrong impression about himself and his mis-concepts will be over soon as civil society will expose him," said a senior PDP leader on the condition of anonymity. "Enough is enough. You cannot run with the hare and hunt with the hounds. This needs to end somewhere," the PDP leader added. Source said the minister, who has already been sidelined from financial accounts of the PDP last month, is trying to plead innocence. Sources said sensing trouble the businessman-minister duo have started lobbying in the corridors that they were no party to the developments that unfolded at the event held on last Friday in New Delhi. A senior PDP leader said things would be clear in the coming days. |
