After books, uniform, parents forced to pay for school infrastructure | | | Asif Iqbal Naik
Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 29: Much to the disappointment of poor parents, the private schools in Kishtwar District are continuously engaged in fleecing and robbing the parents of their hard earned money. After books and uniform, the parents are now forced to pay for school infrastructure. A parent told Early Times that the schools devise new methods day in and day out to mint money. "In the name of extra classes and school infrastructure, we are being fleeced," he said. Another parent had a similar complaint. He said the students are forced to stay back in the school after day's work for extra classes. "The schools charge 800-1000 rupees for such classes," he said. The new trend, he said, is taking heavy toll on the mental and physical health of the students as these extra classes run late in the evenings. The objections by parents have gone in vain. "The hapless parents who oppose this are told to get their wards enrolled in other schools," he said. The parents said despite clear directions from the government to use NCERT books in schools affiliated with state government or the books prescribed by the CBSC board for those schools affiliated with CBSC are being forced to purchase books either from school or from a particular bookseller. They said that not only this, now the school sell uniform in schools to put extra burden on parents. "Each student is supposed to have three sets of uniform. "There are different uniforms for Monday and Tuesday; and Wednesday and Thursday. The students have to wear a track suit on Friday and Saturdays which are sold at a particular shop. Most of the schools, a student said have no drinking water facility and toilets. The student further said that the private schools despite charging heavy fee do not install fans or coolers in class rooms during peak summer days. Similarly, the schools lack fire fighting equipment and CCTVs. "And, to add insult to injury, some of these schools are run by government teachers who skip their classes in government schools and rush to private schools. The parents urged upon the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Education Minister Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari to look into the matter. |
