Pak bosses dump Geelani, accuse him of changing sides | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 29: Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who remained a stooge of Pakistan for his entire life, has been sidelined by his bosses sitting across the Line of Control as he has become useless for them. Sources told Early Times that after forcing him to step down from the chairmanship of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, Geelani is being compelled to reorganize Hurriyat Conference (G), the conglomerate, which the hawk has been heading for the past many years. Insiders revealed that people sitting across the Line of Control believe that the hawk has made compromises with New Delhi and has fallen in the line. "An atmosphere is being created to discredit the old man. Even the funds which his conglomerate used to receive from Pakistan and other countries have been choked. This has led to his activists deserting him," the source added. Insiders revealed that Hurriyat (G) members held a meeting in Srinagar on Wednesday and they asked Geelani to reorganize the conglomerate. "The hawk is being asked to reorganize the amalgam to challenge Geelani's authority and tpo put in new people at place, who enjoy the blessings of the people sitting across the LoC," they added. This development took place a few days after Geelani handed over the charge of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, to Ashraf Sehrai, whose son recently joined militant ranks. "There are speculations that Sehrai was aware about his son planning to join the militants. He was waiting for his elevation. By sending his son with the militants Sehari has scored a pint over Geelani, whose two sons are government employees. Even Geelani's grandson was provided with a government job amidst 2016 unrest. Many people believe that Geelani's grandson was given the job as a part of the deal to call off the 6-month long shutdown in the Valley," the source added. An insider said that National Investigating Agency listing Geelani's son among the "prosecution witnesses" in a case related to terror funding in the Kashmir has also put the hawk in a tight spot. "This has vindicated the people who have been opposing Geelani and were demanding his ouster." The NIA, which filed a charge sheet in the case in January this year, have Geelani's son Naim-ul-Zaffar as witness at serial number 37 in the list of prosecution witnesses submitted to a special court. The NIA has also submitted four-page statement given by Zaffar to an NIA official during the course of investigation. Geelani's son had appeared before the NIA on many occasions. He gave a duly signed statement in which he gave several details, including the people he had met during his post-doctorate from Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences. An insider said that people sitting across the LoC are of the firm opinion that Geelani and his sons have changed the sides and he (hawk) should be dumped. |
